I like rain. I think I'll try to retire to somewhere where it rains a lot.

Basically I got bored and started taking pictures of random stuff and I thought "the inside of the pipe on the playground probably looks cool" so I went to it, sat down and took a picture of the inside.
I submitted the picture in this post but the scaling reqs make it look like shit.
Anyways I was looking at the picture today closer than I had before and started realizing some of the lighting effects along the top of the pipe. I realized I actually GOT light beams without using photoshop. Convinced that the the picture was cool and of quality I went to the 'submit content' link. After a long time of scaling it down just right as to include the whole picture (which took fucking forever) I finally managed to get it submitted (or at least for the preliminary part). Just as I'm finishing the application though, I notice one of the rules: NO PHOTOGRAPHY. I'm pissed, I came SOOO close to actually having something to submit to Newgrounds only for a lame ass rule to get in the way. FML.

So many people today are trying to make the next hit movie, tv show, book, or whatever and there is this nagging issue about trying not to make whatever it is you're making original so that you can be credited with new ideas and be seen as a visionary or whatever you want. It IS possible to do this, to make something totally original but think about it for a second. If you make something that is completely new, completely unrelated to anything that came before it (and I literally mean that, anything and everything about it is new) then it'll will be a flop because no one (or next to no one) will get it. We can't make something totally original otherwise it defeats the purpose by lacking people to share it with, but if we copy what came before it then we're wasting our time since we're just whoring the creative medium.
Good pieces of creativity are a mixture of both. Have ideas that can engage the audience while introducing new ideas to broaden their perspective on whatever the hell you want. Don't be your worst enemy and think you have to please everyone because you can't do it, no one can. Why do you think there are so many philosophies out there? So many religions? so many groups of people bound by sometimes the most arcane and radical of ideas. Because people are different, and you shouldn't be afraid to make different things. But to bridge your thoughts and ideas to other people you need to have a common ground, and unoriginality is that ground that lets people access what you're doing. Why do you think that people reject things that are totally un-origonal? Because they all get it, they feel there's nothing new to be had from it. To make a good piece of whatever the hell you want, be both a creator and a plagiarist.
PS: and whatever mixture of originality and unoriginality you think is right, you should go for. Just keep it a mixture and not one or the other. You're going for appealing to an audience, otherwise why make it in the first place?

Posted by Galazor Nov. 7, 2008 @ 7:55 PM EST...because I hear a lot of people complaining about them.
What I mean is, are there people on the NG forums who actually WANT to talk about stuff and not just spam and flame.

EDIT: I'm not going to submit anything for a while, I'm still getting a feel for flash and I don't want my first flash to be blammed :| .

I like this picture. (No I DID NOT make it)

I just HAD to post this =D:
Some "hackers" from M.I.T. did this to a *famous statue outside of Harvard.
*means I've never heard of it.
